Family applications from India

One family trip, but a separate visa application for every traveller

Family applications should be coordinated without becoming copy-and-paste applications. The itinerary may be shared. The DS-160 remains individual.

Organize my family applications

Application architecture

Separate the facts that belong to the trip from the facts that belong to the person

Shared travel facts

These details should normally align across the family group.

  • Intended destination and approximate travel dates
  • The family reason for travelling together
  • Accommodation plan and U.S. contact details
  • Who will pay for shared travel costs

Individual applicant facts

These details must be reviewed separately for every traveller.

  • Passport details and personal history
  • Employment, school, or retirement information
  • Prior travel and visa history
  • Security and background answers

Family-case review table

Common Indian family profiles require different preparation

Family profile What deserves careful review
Parents visiting adult children Keep the temporary visit clear: duration, accommodation, funding, and the parents’ ongoing ties in India.
Couple travelling for tourism Use a common itinerary, but review each spouse’s employment, travel history, and funding information separately.
Parents travelling with minors Prepare each child’s individual DS-160, passport information, school details where relevant, and parent or guardian information.
Multi-generational family trip Avoid copying answers mechanically. Shared plans can be consistent while personal circumstances remain different.

Practical workflow

Complete the lead applicant carefully, then create the next individual applications

  1. Choose one applicant and complete the DS-160 accurately.
  2. Use the family/group option after the confirmation page where appropriate.
  3. Review imported fields before continuing; do not assume they are complete.
  4. Add each family member’s personal history, passport details, and truthful answers.
  5. Keep each confirmation page and application ID organized separately.
